Simon Arruda is a versatile musician based in the Greater Toronto Area, specializing in the Portuguese guitar. He completed his music degree at York University and initially worked as a jazz guitarist before pivoting to the Portuguese guitar. Simon now performs extensively in southern Ontario, showcasing the traditional use of the instrument in fado music.
In addition to his performances, Simon is a full-time instrumental music teacher at various schools in Toronto. He also composes and arranges music for live performances and his students. Recently, Simon published his first book, "Ukulele: A Method for the Modern Classroom," reflecting his passion for teaching music.
Growing up in a family that cherished Portuguese culture and heritage, Simon has strong ties to the Portuguese community. He has actively participated in traditional festivals and performed with the Banda Lira de Brampton. Simon is a proud father of two and resides with his children in the GTA.
He currently performs with local fadistas (fado singers). He also performs instrumental music (guitarradas).
